About Bitcoin

Bitcoin (BTC) is the world's first decentralized digital currency that enables peer-to-peer transactions to take place between users, without a third-party getting involved. A public distributed ledger called the blockchain records every single bitcoin transaction that takes place. Bitcoin is a deflationary currency, with only 21 million bitcoins available. Bitcoins are created by miners which compete to solve a complex computational problem. The miner who first solve the problem is rewarded with bitcoins. The number of bitcoins given as a reward halves after 210,000 blocks have been mined, which usually takes about four and a half years. Bitcoin can be divided into units up to one-millionth of a bitcoin, or 0.00000001. This is the smallest unit of the cryptocurrency and is known as a satoshi, in honor of the pseudonymous creator of the digital currency, Satoshi Nakamoto.
